A Message From Your School Principal
May 2010
Happy Spring!
Dear Parents of Rochester School Students,
The 2009-2010 school year is coming to a close and our students have had a lot of fun and learned a lot! Rochester Middle and High school students have recently received their 3rd report card. I hope you saw the honor roll page in the newspaper. Our 3rd Quarter grades showed that 69% of our seniors were on honors or high honors, 73% of our juniors, 71% of our tenth graders, 45% of our ninth graders, 27% of eighth graders, 56% of seventh graders and 44% of our 6th graders were on honors or high honors. We celebrate our marking periods with an honor assembly with our students receiving a certificate and a well deserved round of applause. Our elementary student’s are on a trimester report card cycle and will receive their 3rd report around June 11th. Rochester teachers challenge our students to try and improve their grades each marking period. We believe that when a student strives to do their best everyone wins.
In addition to academic pursuits our Rochester students have been busy with extracurricular activities such as athletics and 21st Century sponsored After School Programs. We had great soccer and basketball seasons with Rochester school supporting 3 levels of soccer; elementary-aged teams, middle school girls and boy’s teams and Varsity girl and boy teams. Our cross country team continued to grow, and we hosted an exciting home meet on a beautiful fall day. We concluded our basketball season with girl and boy elementary teams, a nearly undefeated middle school boy’s team, and boy and girl varsity teams. We have recently started our baseball and golf season. We have middle school boy and girl’s teams and boy’s Varsity and girl’s Varsity teams.
Elementary school students have been enjoying a variety of After School Programs offered by talented enrichment teachers. Our Greenhouse Club has begun planning our gardens and elementary students helped make the set for our wildly popular Michael Jackson Dance Tribute troupe. These talented middle school dancers performed in front of a packed house on April 27th and performed for the student body on April 30th. Our middle and high school students have also enjoyed other After School programs such as Wii games, archery, film making, and graphic arts.
Our Rochester students have shared their greatness outside of our school too. Our high school Jr. Iron Chef team took BEST IN SHOW at the annual Jr. Iron Chef competition in Burlington last month, and our middle school took Most Creative honors in their age group. One of our talented sophomores was crowned the Valley Idol in a recent multi-community-wide Valley Idol program.
Our seniors will be presenting their Senior Projects to community panels in mid May and will be taking their senior trip soon after. Our elementary, middle, and high school students are looking forward to the end of year rush, and will most likely try to pack in as many activities as possible in the next two months.
We are very excited to offer our students another educational avenue next year. We will be sending home information about the Big Picture Learning opportunity we will pilot next school year. We have had a number of parent/community presentations so far and will be offering more soon.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or ideas to help make our school the absolutely best it can be.
Sincerely,
Mary Sue Crowley
Assistant-to-the-Principal
